LaakLaak Loses a Huge Pot

On a flop of 9Diamond Suit4Spade Suit5Diamond Suit, Tristan Wade checked to Phil Laak who bet 10,000. Wade check-raised to 25,000 and Laak moved all in, having Wade covered. Wade called all in for around 60,000. Their hands:

Laak: 4Club Suit5Club Suit
Wade: 9Spade Suit9Club Suit

Both players hit the flop in a big way, but Wade’s flopped set was well ahead of Laak’s two pair. The turn and river didn’t help and Laak took a big blow to his massive stack. Fortunately for him, he had accumulated enough chips today so that he was still healthy with 58,000 after the hand.

Wade had around 120,000.

Small Pockets Good For Cahail

Blake Cahail raised to 1,000 preflop and was called by seat 1. The flop fell 6Club Suit5Diamond Suit9Spade Suit and both players checked.

The 10Club Suit came on the turn and Cahail checked to seat 1, who bet 1,700. Cahail called and the 3Club Suit landed on the river. Both players checked and Cahail showed a simple 4Spade Suit4Heart Suit. It was good enough, and he took a pot and chipped up above 75,000.

Griffin Lets One Go

Gavin Griffin called a bet from seat 7 on a flop of 8Spade Suit6Club SuitJHeart Suit. On the 7Heart Suit turn, seat 7 bet 3,200 and Griffin called.

The KDiamond Suit fell on the river and seat 7 reached for chips. he bet 6,200 and as soon as they hit the middle of the table Griffin looked pain. He eventually mucked and still had around 90,000 in chips.

Jared HambyHamby Gets Bluffed

On a flop of KSpade Suit4Heart Suit9Heart Suit, Jared Hamby led out for 800 and was called by the player on the button. The turn was the AClub Suit and Hamby led out again, this time for 1,300 and was once again called.

The ADiamond Suit fell on the river and this time Hamby opted to check. The player on the button bet 6,000 and Hamby went deep into the tank. Several minutes went by and was truly torn at what to do.

After a long period of though, Hamby let his hand go. The player on the button showed 8Heart Suit9Heart Suit and showed his busted flush draw. Hamby claimed he folded the king-high flush draw, which gave him top pair on the flop as well. Hamby is still very healthy in chips though.

Langmann Moving in the Right Direction

There were 8,600 chips in the middle on the turn with the board reading 2Diamond SuitKDiamond Suit3Diamond SuitAHeart Suit. There was a check and Florian Langmann checked behind.

The AClub Suit fell on the river and Langmann’s opponent bet out as 2,200. Langmann made the call and showed KClub SuitJDiamond Suit. It was just ahead of his opponent’s KSpade Suit10Heart Suit and Langmann increased his stack to 96,000.

Nick MitchellMitchell Gets Action on Aces

A player in early position raised to 2,000 and Nick Mitchell called from the button. The flop came 9Heart Suit6Heart Suit10Heart Suit and the original raiser bet 5,000 and Mitchell raised to 20,000, which covered his opponent.

His opponent made the call very quickly and showed JSpade SuitJClub Suit and Mitchell showed ADiamond SuitAClub Suit. The turn was the 2Diamond Suit and the 4Diamond Suit was the river card, to boost Mitchell to 50,000.

AdamsAdams Crippled in Horrific One-Outter

Brandon Adams had to be pleased to get all in holding AHeart SuitADiamond Suit. His opponent held KHeart SuitKClub Suit was in serious trouble.

The flop gave both players a set, running ASpade Suit3Diamond SuitKSpade Suit. The turn was the 3Spade Suit giving Adams the best possible full house, but on the river the table exploded with a collective “oooh!” as the case KDiamond Suit fell to give quad king to the other player.

After a nice start to the day, Adams was down to just 5,000 in chips. Interestingly enough, just a few hands later a player with pocket aces got all in again against a player holding pocket kings. Once again, a king fell on the flop and the aces were cracked, eliminating the player holding them.

Friedberg’s Aggression Earns Him a Pot

We caught up with the action on the river with the board reading 8Heart SuitQSpade Suit6Heart Suit8Spade Suit2Heart Suit. There was already over 14,000 in the pot and Jon Friedberg had put out a bet of 8,100.

His opponent immediately went into the tank and said “I don’t know how I’m supposed to get away from this.”

Friedberg sat motionless with his sunglasses on and eventually his opponent flashed A-Q and tossed it into the muck. Friedberg immediately mucked his cards and the dealer pushed him the pot.

Friedberg is now up to 41,300 with the pot.

John D'AgostinoJ-Dags Gets Three-Outed, Eliminated

We got to the action at the end of a preflop raising war between John D’Agostino and Alex Bonnin. It resulted in D’Agostino getting his last 17,000 into the middle with pocket jacks against the KClub Suit5Club Suit of Bonnin.

To make a long story short, Bonnin hit a king on the flop to send D’Agostino home.

Chewy Can’t Beat Eights

Andrew Lichtenberger was checked to a flop of AClub SuitJClub Suit6Club Suit. Lichtenberger fired 1,100 and was called by his opponent.

The 6Diamond Suit fell on the turn and both players checked. The 5Heart Suit was the river card and both players checked again. Lichtenberger mucked his hand when the other player turned up 8Diamond Suit8Club Suit, dropping him to 15,000 in chips.

Pavilion Room Coverage

Robert Williamson Eliminated

Robert Williamson got all his chips into the middle preflop with pocket queens. His all-in of just under 20,000 was called by an opponent with A-K. The flop came QClub Suit10Heart Suit5Spade Suit and gave Williamson top set, but left his opponent with a gutshot. The JSpade Suit filled the straight draw and Williamson needed the board to pair. However, the 2Club Suit on the river sealed his fate and he was eliminated.

Big Hands:

Phil GalfondGalfond Gets Lucky

On a flop of 10Club Suit3Club Suit8Diamond Suit, Phil Galfond check-called a bet from his opponent and the 3Heart Suit came on the turn.

Galfond then check-raised the turn all-in for his remaining 9,000 and was called by his opponent. Galfond was not in good shape when he turned over his KDiamond Suit10Diamond Suit and his opponent turned up the QClub SuitQSpade Suit.

The river was the 10Spade Suit, however, giving Galfond the best hand and doubling him up to 37,000.

Shchemelev Doubles

On the river, the board read 9Club Suit9Spade SuitQClub Suit8Spade Suit5Diamond Suit and there was already 10,000 in the middle. Vladimir Shchemelev moved all-in for his last 13,275 and his opponent made the call.

Shchemelev showed AHeart SuitASpade Suit and his opponent mucked. Shchemelev doubled up to 36,500.

Vlad The Impaler

Shchemelev was at it again a little later. He raised to 600 from late position and the player in the big blind made the call.

The flop came 5Spade SuitKHeart Suit10Club Suit and the big blind checked to Shchemelev who bet 1,000. The big blind called and the 9Diamond Suit fell on the turn. The big blind checked again and Shchemelev fired 3,000 into the pot. The big blind sighed and eventually folded.

Shchemelev had around 40,000 after the hand.

Jim CollopyCollopy Scoops Big One

Jim “Mr_BigQueso” Collopy got all-in preflop and turned over KHeart SuitKClub Suit. He was in great shape against his opponent’s QHeart SuitQSpade Suit.

The board ran out 7Spade Suit10Spade SuitJClub Suit3Heart Suit7Club Suit, keeping Collopy in the lead and the player with pocket queens hit the rail. One of the other two players at the table cliamed that he folded the other two kings after the hand was over.

Collopy now has 85,000 and looks to be the biggest stack in the room.

Adams Scares Off Best Hand

Three players limped in, including Brandon Adams, and the player in seat 1 raised to 1,500. One player folded and seat 3 and Adams called.

The flop came JHeart Suit8Diamond Suit9Heart Suit and seat 1 led out for 2,500. Seat 3 folded and Adams raised to 6,500. Seat 1 thought and decided to give Adams respect for a big hand, showing the table QSpade SuitQClub Suit as he folded.

Adams showed a weaker AHeart SuitJSpade Suit as he scooped the pot and admitted that he didn’t think seat 1’s hand was very strong.

With that, Adams had around 49,300 in chips.

Griffin Multitasking Well

On a three-way flop of JHeart SuitKSpade Suit4Club Suit action checked to Gavin Griffin who bet 1,200. Everyone folded to Griffin, who after stacking his chips went immediately back to reading a book on his Kindle.

Between reading breaks Griffin has chipped up to around 40,000.

The flop ran 5Club Suit7Club SuitQHeart Suit and the big blind checked to Adams who bet 3,300. Seat 5 called the sizeable bet quickly and the big blind folded.

The JHeart Suit hit on the turn and Adams again led out for 6,000. Seat 5 called very quickly again.

The 10Spade Suit landed on the river and Adams bet two orange chips for a 10,000 bet. This time seat 5 took a deep breath and tanked, shaking his head. He asked Adams if he had a set and Adams didn’t move a muscle.

Seat 5 eventually folded, flashing pocket kings and Adams scooped a nice pot that put his stack around 40,000.

Swick Takes Quick Hit

In a 3-way limped pot the flop ran 10Club Suit4Spade SuitKSpade Suit and action was checked to seat 9, who bet 1,200. Justin YoungYoung Gets Hit With a cold Deck and Crippled

On a flop of 2Heart Suit7Diamond Suit2Diamond Suit, Justin Young checked and his opponent on the button bet 2,275. Young check-raised to 6,700 and his opponent went into the tank. After a minute of thought or so, his opponent moved all-in for 22,075.

Young winced and said “I’m supposed to snap-call, but I don’t like it.”

Young eventually made the call and showed KClub Suit2Club Suit. His opponent on the button turned up ASpade Suit2Spade Suit, giving him the better kicker with his trips.

The turn was the 5Heart Suit and the river was the QClub Suit and Young was crippled with around 4,000 left.

Le Doubles With Flush

Tuan Le got his last 10,000 or so all in on a flop of 4Spade Suit6Diamond Suit7Diamond Suit. he held ADiamond SuitQDiamond Suit for a flush draw and his opponent held the flopped set with 4Club Suit4Diamond Suit.

The 5Diamond Suit hit on the turn, giving Le the flush, and the 10Club Suit on the river meant that doubled up to around 21,500.

Williamson Over Dang

Robert Williamson III bet 250 on a fop of JSpade SuitQClub Suit5Diamond Suit and was called by Hac Dang. Both players checked the 10Spade Suit turn and the 4Club Suit river card.

Williamson Allegedly Lays Down Aces

On a board of 10Spade Suit9Club Suit2Diamond Suit10Club Suit Robert Williamson bet 2,800. His opponent raised to 8,000 and Williamson tanked. He eventually elected to fold. His opponent tabled the KHeart Suit10Heart Suit and Williamson claimed he folded aces.

Vladimir Shchemelev has made four final tables at the 2010 WSOP for more than $1 million in winnings. He’s sitting in the day 1b field and just took down a small pot.

Shchemelev was one of three players who called a raise to 250 from the player in seat 1.
